I was hoping to find something by Toni Morrison here. Many people find her novels difficult to get into at first. I bought my mother ‘Beloved’. She put it down after the first few pages never to pick it up again, which saddened me as mum was an avid reader, but she “couldn’t get into it” were her words. Many have tried Morrison two or three time before her worlds suddenly click with the reader. Thanks for this list beautifully explained.
